Setting Up Page Groups

Statistics are available for user-defined groups, regardless of where the pages contained in the group appear on the website. The following explains how to create page groups, and how to add pages to these groups.

Click Add page group below the list of existing groups to create a new group.

Click a group name in the list to edit settings for an existing group.

Both actions take you to the group setup process, consisting of 3 steps presented in 3 tabs.

Each option in the three steps of the Page group setup process has an associated help text. Hover your mouse over the red question mark to display a help text.

Name the group, select a site from where to retrieve pages to include in the group, and click Create.

This saves the new group, and allows you to add pages to it.

Click the URL match tab to add or exclude pages according to common value in page URL, or click the Title match tab to add or exclude pages according to page title.

Pages can be added to the group according a part of the URL that they have in common. For example, the pages with the URLs http://siteimprove.com/Solutions/SiteCheck.aspx and http://siteimprove.com/Solutions/SiteAnalyze.aspx share everything but the product name. In order to group these two pages, enter the part of the URL that they have in common.

Adding only a part of the URL is sufficient. In the case above, entering /Solutions/ is enough to include these two pages, and all other pages that share that value in the URL, to the group.

Pages can also be excluded from a group according to a URL match. Select the Excluded option under Matching pages should be: .

Click the Add button to save changes and update the group with pages that match this URL string.

This may take some time for larger sites.

The Title match tab works in the same way:

  • Enter a value that is common to page titles of the pages that you want to match.
  • Select whether to include or exclude these pages.
  • Click Add to update the group.

Pages can also be added to a group on a page by page basis. Throughout the interface, you will have the option of adding a page to a page group when viewing Page statistics for an individual page. Simply click the Attach to page group button, as illustrated below, and select a group to which to attach this page.
