Groups and Basic Display Options

The Search setup page allows you to set up the basics of how search results are displayed, and the behaviour when users click on the result.

Here is a summary of available options:

  • Number of results shown per page: This determines the number of search results that should be displayed on each search results page. The default value is 10.
  • Highlighting: Setting this option highlights each occurrence of the search term on the page when a user clicks on a search result. This actually opens a copy of the page hosted on SiteImprove's server, with each occurrence wrapped in the HTML mark-up entered in the Highlight tag field below.
    • Highlight search term: This checkbox switches this feature on and off
    • Use Anchor: Select this checkbox to jump to the first occurrence of the search term when users click on a result.
    • Highlight tag: The HTML mark-up that is used to highlight the search term. If you do not wish to use inline style definitions, you can define a CSS class in your style sheet and apply this class to the mark-up; e.g. <span class="search_term">[MATCH]</span>.
  • Excerpt length: This determines approximately how long the text excerpt displayed on the search results page should be. The excerpt will not split words, so the excerpt length may vary slightly.
  • Grouping: This displays a list of the groups that have been created for your site. Please refer to Group setup help screen to find out how to create groups.
    • Use group limit: Select this checkbox to limit the search result to include only pages which meet the criteria set below.
    • Selected groups are included/excluded: Select groups from the list by ticking the box adjacent to the group name in the Selection column. Groups will be included or excluded depending on the selection made in the Selected groups are: option above.
    • Show group: Select groups from the list from the list by ticking the box adjacent to the group name in the Show group column. Selected groups will be displayed on the search results page.
    • Display sub-groups: If the group consists of sub-groups, this checkbox will be available. If this box is ticked, selecting this group on the search results page causes any sub-groups to be displayed.
    • Sequence: This determines the order in which groups will be displayed on the search results page. Enter 1 to display a group as the first group in the list; 2 to display it second; etc.
    • Edit: Click edit to go to the Group description page, which allows you to add a description or a tool-tip to a group; and to choose an alternate name to display in place of the existing group name.
