5 minutes with Dean Hale, Web Development Manager at the University of Sunderland.
How would you sum up SiteCheck?
SiteCheck facilitates the quality assurance of the website content, allowing editors to easily locate and fix link errors, misspellings and allow site owners to check the accessibility of content.
What attracted you to trial SiteCheck and what convinced you to buy it?
The University of Sunderland sites are maintained by over 200 content editors comprising of those in full-time roles and occasional editors. SiteCheck enables us to ensure that sites are now monitored for spelling and link errors, notifying the editors directly of any errors in their area of the site.
We also found the free trial a hugely valuable opportunity to evaluate the service.
What have you used it to do and what were the results?
To put it simply, we have used SiteCheck to ensure the quality of content with regard to spelling, broken links and accessibility and have seen great results in terms of reducing the number errors on our website.
How has it improved your web management?
Having been able to set up groups has been really useful in enabling specific sections of the site for editors. Groups we have set up include Research, Study and Faculties.
How does it rate, for example, on cost, usability, features, customer support (speed and quality)?
As far as cost is concerned, SiteCheck is extremely good value. For usability, I would say that the service is comprehensive and very easy to use. (We delivered one-hour workshops to train our content editors in using the service).
The features within SiteCheck are very good and with regard to support from the Siteimprove team, this has been excellent.
Sum up your overall experience.
It has been very positive. SiteCheck enables you to feel more secure that content is being checked for quality assurance and that it is a constant process.
And finally, what is your favourite feature of SiteCheck?
Deep linking – integrating SiteCheck with our own Content Management System (CMS). This gives the ability to click on the faulty word and be taken directly into the CMS to fix it. This really is invaluable.
